Vice Chair - Jenni Jackson
Jenni moved up from North London to Bedford in 1973 and has lived just north of the town, in Clapham, since 1980.
She joined the Labour Party as a reaction to the extremes of the Thatcher era in 1990, long before the current constituency boundaries existed. An active member ever since, she has consistently stood as a ‘flag flyer’ at local elections and held almost every post at both branch and CLP level at some time or another.
An unexpected win – by just two votes – in Clapham ward in the 1995 election gave Jenni four years as a Bedford Borough Councillor. In 1999, a tied vote with the Tory saw the election go down in the annals of Bedford Borough Council history – four recounts with the same result forced the Presiding Officer to put the two names in a ballot box. He drew out the Tory candidate’s and the rest is history – Clapham has been relentlessly Tory to this day.
A semi-retired writer, editor and graphic designer, Jenni now uses her skills to provide publicity literature for the local CLPs, Momentum, and a range of other charities close to her heart.
She has four grown-up sons, three grandchildren and a large extended family. A keen indoor and outdoor climber, she also cycles and enjoys hunting for geocaches country-wide (https://www.geocaching.com/guide/).
